“There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” From Shakespeare’s Hamlet. How we frame things effects our mental health. This assembly educates students on “mental health traps” such as, black and white thinking, catastrophizing, should statements, and other cognitive distortions that can effect our sense of well being. The title “when life gives us lemons, make lemonade,” emphasizes the importance of mental flexibility and staying positive whenever possible. Students will be shown how to “step back” and inspect any thoughts that are distressing for validity and to remember that “a thought is just a thought it maybe true it maybe not. As always Park will use his juggling routines to drive home key points and keep students engaged while they learn important mental health lessons.
